CEILING SOUNDPROOFING INSTALLATION SERVICE
There are a number of different ceiling soundproofing systems on the market, some better than others, with different degrees of success in reducing noise through the ceiling. The following ceiling systems offer the best balance of quality, budget and cleanliness of installation.
Being an established soundproofing installation company, we do also have other ceiling systems that we can deploy depending on the situation.

STANDARD INDEPENDENT SYSTEM
Our entry level independent system works well to reduce airborne noise and some impact sounds coming through the ceiling. We find this system works well to reduce everyday noise.• A metal frame is attached to the walls and metal cross members span the room.
• Acoustic insulation is fitted into the frame.
• Timber battons are attached to the cross members.
• Two layers of acoustic boards are then fitted to battons.
• The perimeter and acoustic boards are sealed using acoustic sealant.
• Our award winning plasterer then skims the ceiling.
• A new light pendant is fitted.
• The ceiling is now ready to decorate.
• Minimum loss of height 150mm (6”), though we recommend a little more if you have the space.
• Costs from £270 inc VAT per square metre.
INDEPENDENT ACOUSTIC SHIELD 5 SYSTEM
This is our most popular system as it has improved reduction of airborne and impact sounds, and also works well against lower frequency sounds such as deep voices and bass sounds.
Similar in construction to our Standard Independent Soundproofing Ceiling System, the Acoustic Shield 5 Independent Soundproofing Ceiling System includes the added layer of an acoustic shield laminated between the acoustic boards to create a more effective sound blocking barrier between source noises. A winner every time!• A metal frame is attached to the walls and metal cross members span the room.
• Acoustic insulation is fitted into the frame.
• Timber battons are attached to the cross members. • Two layers of acoustic boards are then fitted to battons.
• The acoustic shield 5 (AS5) is fitted between the two boards.
• The perimeter and boards are sealed using acoustic sealant.
• Our award winning plasterer then skims the ceiling.
• A new light pendant is fitted.
• The ceiling is now ready to decorate.
• Minimum loss of height 150mm (6”), though we recommend a little more if you have the space.
• Costs from £340 inc VAT per square metre.
INDEPENDENT ACOUSTIC SHIELD 10 SYSTEM
This is rapidly becoming our best selling system as it has greatly improved reduction of airborne and impact sounds, and also works well against lower frequency sounds such as deep voices and bass sounds. Similar in construction to our other Ceiling Systems, the Acoustic Shield 10 Independent Soundproofing Ceiling System includes the added layer of an acoustic 10kg shield laminated between the acoustic boards to create a more effective sound blocking barrier between source noises.
• A metal frame is attached to the walls and metal cross members span the room.
• Acoustic insulation is fitted into the frame.
• Timber battons are attached to the cross members. • Two layers of acoustic boards are then fitted to battons.
• The acoustic shield 10 (AS10) is fitted between the two boards.

INDEPENDENT ACOUSTIC MAXI SYSTEM
This system is suitable for more extreme noise problems in restricted access areas. In addition to reducing noise in general, it also helps to reduce lower frequency sounds such as bass sounds, musical instruments and barking dogs. This is our top of the range system for reduction in airborne sound across low, mid and higher frequencies.
• A metal frame is attached to the walls and metal cross members span the room • Acoustic insulation is fitted into the frame.
• Specialist premium acoustic composite boards with overlap joints are glued and screwed together to create a monolithic ceiling. These boards are made from gypsum and cement held together by a polymeric core, and are only 17mm thick. When cutting these boards we use a high end dust extraction system fitted to a specialist saw to minimise dust on the job.
• The boards are attached to the frame and sheeted over with a regular acoustic board to give maximum sound reduction.
• The perimeters are sealed using acoustic sealant.
• Our award winning plasterer then skims the ceiling.
• A new light pendant is fitted.
• The ceiling is now ready to decorate.
• Minimum loss of height 150mm (6”), though we recommend a little more if you have the space.
• Costs from £450 inc VAT per square metre.
Ceiling Soundproofing FAQs
Below are a range of FAQs commonly asked about Soundproofing of ceilings, both domestic and commercial.
How much ceiling height will I lose off my ceiling?
A minimum of 170mm (6 ¾”). Depending on the height of your ceiling, you may be able to lower the system further in order to achieve greater sound reduction quality. Although it seems a lot the results are worth it! In our experience most people don’t notice reduction in ceiling height.
What happens to my light fixtures and fittings during the soundproofing process?
We will fit a new light pendent for you. This is easily changed at a later date.
I would like downlighting, how can you accommodate this as part of your soundproofing service?
In this case, we will install a sacrificial ceiling, below our soundproofing system. This allows space for the downlighting feature, without compromising the quality of noise reduction.
How will the soundproofing procedure affect my cornice or coving?
At soundproofing4U, we have found that sealing the entire ceiling is far more effective in maximising the sound reduction. We will install a new plaster cornice or cove. We can template your existing cornice to exactly match if required.
Will the soundproofing system stop me hearing footsteps from upstairs?
Yes, in most cases. The soundproofing system we implement is not attached to your ceiling, meaning that footfall noises are dramatically reduced! See what other customers have said >
How much will it cost to soundproof my ceiling?
To supply and fit a typical ceiling it will cost approximately £3500.00 Inc. VAT, depending on which system is used.
How long does it take to soundproof a ceiling?
It takes around 2.5 days to complete the process.
